The Mutating COVID-19 Virus, An Invisible Enemy with an Extremely Higher Risk of Transmission

During a meeting with heads of trade unions on April 7th, the head of Neyshabur Faculty of Medical Sciences considered COVID-19 an invisible enemy. Pointing out the martyrdom of 2400 martyrs in eight years of the Iran-Iraq war, Dr. Aziminejad mentioned the mean number of martyrs to be less than one per day, reporting that the death toll due to the COVID-19 is three times higher than the war.

This authority expressed: despite many warnings and recommendations regarding travel bans, no such thing happened, markets opened again and the virus was spread to different areas.

According to Dr. Aziminejad, the number of patients with COVID-19 had decreased in late March and there were 17 days of no corona-related deaths. He compared these statistics with the current rate of hospitalization of 90 patients per day and asserted that the increasing number of hospitalized patients, critically ill ICU patients, positive COVID-19 test results, and corona-related death are indicative of an absolutely dangerous situation. In this regard, he added: unfortunately, we took those days for granted.

He emphasized: I did my religious and legal duty to inform about the dangerous situation caused by this disease and I hope that everyone be informed about the risks of the disease.

Pointing out the rapid transmission rate of the mutating COVID-19 virus, Dr. Aziminejad asked the citizens of Iran to more adhere to the principles of health and hygiene, emphasizing that wearing masks, social distancing, washing hands, and having good personal hygiene will prevent the transmission of the virus. He also suggested visiting the closest healthcare centers in the neighborhood in case of gastrointestinal symptoms, headache, and fever.
