Department of Basic Medical Sciences

The Department of Basic Medical Sciences consist of five disciplines: Anatomy, Medical Genetics, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, and Physiology. The Department of Basic Medical Sciences is the basis of clinical medical sciences by undertaking basic medical education in the first 2 years of the medical program of the medical faculty with all its departments. Students are taught to integrate knowledge from the different disciplines into a meaningful whole and to acquire skills in reasoning and deduction in order to solve medical and related problems.

Basic Medical Sciences faculty teach and provide curricular leadership to support the educational mission of the college. Our blended faculty creates a unique environment to perform cutting-edge collaborative and interdisciplinary research aimed at investigating fundamental basic medical questions and finding solutions to challenges in cancer, metabolic and cardiovascular, genetics as well as neurological and infectious diseases. Through discovery, education and service, the Basic Medical Sciences faculty strive to be leaders in their research fields. Using interdisciplinary approaches, Basic Medical Sciences faculty perform hypothesis-driven investigations to reveal mechanisms that underlie biological processes and human disease and collaborate with clinical researchers to facilitate the development of novel diagnostics, therapies and preventive measures. Basic Medical Sciences faculty are also engaged in medical and graduate education by developing, delivering and assessing curricula, and conduct educational scholarship.
