Department of Occupational Health & Safety Engineering

In this department we try to train researchers in the field of occupational health science, industrial health and safety, and also occupational health and safety specialists with the ability to identify, evaluate, eliminate or control hazards and harmful factors in the workplace along with providing appropriate methods for prevention and control.

This field was established in 2015 in NUMS. During the past years, the group has completed its faculty, laboratory supplies and equipment and has established various specialized laboratories (physical agents, chemical and toxicological agents, ergonomics, safety). At present, this group has 4 faculty members and so far, many students have been graduated and are serving in the country's industries.

Objectives

According to the religious standards and ethical principles, the goals of the occupational health and safety engineering group are as follows:

  • Improving scientific activities and improving the quality of educational programs
  • Promoting scientific activities and improving the quality of research projects
  • Contributing to the scientific and technological development of the country in the field of occupational health
  • Meeting the health needs of industries based on scientific principles
  • Participation in scientific development and promotion of the country's scientific position in the field of occupational health
  • Participation and cooperation in educational activities with other departments of the university
  • Improving communication with industries in order to identify needs and correct problems

 

Our Capabilities

This group, with its specialized faculty members, announces its capabilities as follows:

  • Ability to design and implement ventilation systems to control air pollutants in industrial, mining and tunnel environments
  • Ability to measure and evaluate noise in the workplace and provide sound control plans in the workplace
  • Ability to measure heat stress in work environments and compare with standards
  • Ability to measure and evaluate lighting in workplaces and design lighting systems
  • Ability to measure dust in work environments and compare with standards
  • Ability to detect harmful gases and vapors in work environments and provide control plans
  • Ability to carry out risk identification projects and assess and manage safety risks in various industries
  • Ability to develop ERP programs
  • Design and implementation of ergonomics studies
  • Ability to implement, document and deploy safety, occupational health and environmental management systems including ISO 45001, ISO 14001, ISO 9001, etc.

 

Our Laboratories

This group includes several specialized laboratories in the field of occupational health, which provide the necessary equipment for teaching students and conducting research studies. These laboratories are:

  • Physical agent laboratory including the following equipment:

 Simple sound level meter, advanced sound level meter, heat stress measuring device, UV ray measuring device, IR ray measuring device, electromagnetic wave measuring device, lux meter, etc.

  • Chemical agents’ laboratory including the following equipment:

Particle mass counter, various types of sampling pumps, various types of particle, gas and vapor sampling systems, dry gas meter, wet gas meter, online electronic gas meter, piston pump, Impugners, multi-stage particle sampling impactor, phase contrast microscope, etc.

  • Ergonomics laboratory includes the following equipment:

Types of calipers, electronic dynamometer, hand muscle dynamometer, back and leg muscle dynamometer, anthropometric chamber, Queen step test, blood pressure monitor, heart rate monitor, ergometer bike, etc.

  • Safety lab includes:

A variety of personal protective equipment and fire extinguishers
